Coffee Bean Dress Reproduction
Special Topics In Costume Technology: Museum Reproduction, Indiana University, Fall 2021
This class focused on reproducing garments from museum collections. This two-tone dress with an all-over coffee bean print is based on an extant original in the Elizabeth Sage Costume Collection. The original garment was analyzed and a pattern drafted according to the original measurements. The coffee-bean-printed fabric was recreated in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and printed onto Inkjet-prepared silk with a large-format fabric printer. (Differences in lighting between the museum study room and the costume shop affect the way the fabrics photograph, but the colors were matched to Pantone color swatches.)
